SafeImage™ Paper From ProDocumentSolutions Wins Security Awards
Recognized for in- and on-paper security features
PASO ROBLES, Calif., September 4, 2007—ProDocumentSolutions, a certified security printer, announced today a security document it produced was named the Grand Award Winner at the 3rd Annual Print Excellence and Knowledge (PEAK) Awards competition presented by Print Solutions Magazine.
The winning document was a bilingual oil drilling inspection certificate designed with security features to protect against fraud. According to the awards judges, the finished piece showed a custom document with a range of security features from low to high.
“This has a lot of features that make it harder to get through,” the judges said. “When it comes to document security, you have to overkill and this has it.”
ProDocumentSolutions also received three PEAK Award of Excellence recognitions in document security for a secure parking pass, Republic of Moldova security document and a security document for schools. A fourth Award of Excellence was given for security features incorporated into an education piece on academic transcripts.
“Our security technologies are designed to provide a layered approach to thwart document replication and alteration,” George Phillips, chief executive officer of ProDocumentSolutions, said. “The liability that is at stake is very high. Companies and institutions must take increasingly sophisticated steps to protect themselves.”
The Grand Award Winner document was produced on ProDocumentSolutions’ SafeImage™ Paper Security, which is a true watermark paper with unique security images embedded into the paper. The images can only be viewed by translucent “pass through light.” SafeImage incorporates other in-paper security features, including chemical protection from special color indicators that react to chemicals, blue and red visible fibers, and invisible fluorescent fibers. The paper also has a special toner adhesion coating that more securely anchors images to the paper, thereby making it more difficult to remove images without visible damage to the paper.
The base paper used in SafeImage™ is DocuMark® Custom, which is manufactured by Appleton. Appleton also designed the custom SafeImage watermark exclusively for ProDocumentSolutions, as well as developed the in-paper security features and special toner adhesion coating.
In addition to the in-paper security features, the winning document incorporated the following patented on-paper security technologies, which are offered by ProDocumentSolutions:
- NaNoCopy™ Security Background: An anti-copy background that utilizes a microscopic text and numerical algorithm to easily authenticate a transcript. Most warning backgrounds use dots or lines, which are easy to copy.
- TouchSafe® Verification Seal: Printed in heat-sensitive ink, TouchSafe® allows instant interactive verification. Touching, briskly rubbing or breathing on the area verifies color changes and the hidden word “VALID.”
- TamperSafe®: An optical variable pixel hologram with the word “SAFE” ghosted into it. When viewed at different angles, four distinctly different images are visible. TamperSafe is fused into the substrate, so removal is impossible without destroying the paper.
The SafeImage paper is under full chain of custody control by ProDocumentSolutions and is only available to certified customers. International Security Products, a sister company of ProDocumentSolutions, is the technology patent holder for the on-paper security printing features.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New Security Technology Verifies Digital Image of Paper Checks Image-survivable security feature dramatically reduces liability
and
provides full compliance with "Check 21" requirements PASO ROBLES, Calif., December 8, 2004 new image-survivable security
technology that makes it possible to verify
the authenticity of printed checks after they have been scanned
and
digitized by a bank or other financial institution. This
new technology is called ImageSECURE™ and involves
the printing of
microstructures at one level. Then, through a patent-pending
technology, it
embeds a secondary verifier into the background of the initial
microstructures, all of which are printed behind the common areas
of
interest security layers and is virtually impossible to replicate
digitally
without
detection. This digital alphanumeric verifier can be an almost limitless
range of
custom patterns which, when scanned and compressed into a low-resolution
bitmap image, form pixel-latent verification identifiers. These
embedded or
hidden images survive the scanning and compression process to
become part of
the digital check. The images can be verified visually or by
machine with
the development of appropriate software. "The
image-survivable security technology of ImageSECURE™ allows
an
inspector to determine whether a low-resolution bitmap was created
by the
original document or a counterfeit, long after the original has
been
destroyed," George Phillips, chief executive officer, said. "It
works in
concert with our other security measures to enable a bank to
identify a
counterfeit check at any point in the process cycle. From the
point of
presentment all the way down to the digital copy, this security
technology
can dramatically reduce a bank¹s, and/or corporate customers,
liability
against fraudulent checks." ImageSECURE™ is
available through ProDocumentSolutions, which deploys the
technology on checks printed with DocuCheck Watermark® security
papers from
Appleton. ProDocumentSolutions offers a wide range of patented
technologies
that provide both covert and overt protection for product fraud
or diversion
protection. In addition, ProDocumentSolutions is a certified
security
printer, with the certification being awarded by the North American
Security
Products Organization, of which it is a member. ImageSECURE™ technology
enables confirmation of both digital and mechanical
alterations. The confirmation hinges on the distinctive variations,
formations, clusters or absence of pixels in the embedded verifier
image. "These
latent, embedded images act as a distinct fingerprint of the
digital
document," Phillips explained. "It will show with
reasonable certainty
whether or not the digital check is a scan from a real or counterfeit
check.
And this technology is engineered to provide identification even
at the
low-resolution scanning level banks will use to keep file storage
as small
as possible." ImageSECURE™ technology
exceeds all requirements for the new federal law
"
Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act," or Check 21
for short. Check 21
went into effect Oct. 28, 2004. ProDocumentSolutions launched
ImageSECURE™
in October at the Xplor 2004 show in Dallas, Texas. About ProDocumentSolutions

ImageSECURE™ is
a new image-survivable security technology available from
ProDocumentSolutions that verifies the digital image of paper
checks and
provides full compliance with "Check 21" requirements.
The new technology
embeds a visual verifier that is printed in the background behind
the common
areas of interest on a check. These hidden images are virtually
impossible
to replicate digitally without detection. As shown in the bottom
portion of
the photo, the verifier survives the low-resolution scanning
and compression
process approved under "Check 21" guidelines. The
bitmapped image that
remains verifies that the scanned image was made from an authentic
check.

with DocuMark Watermark™ security
